Fitness Application Checklist
In addition to fully answering all of the questions on the fitness application (including providing email addresses for your personal references, schools, and employers where possible) and ensuring your filing fee is received by the applicable deadline, the following steps are required after you file the application and pay the fee:
1. After you submit your fitness application and pay the filing fee, you will be able to select the “Upload New Document” feature at the bottom-right side of your homepage to upload your birth certificate, driving record, and any other document your analyst requests. You should communicate with your analyst by using the “Message Your Analyst” feature on your homepage.
2. Promptly upload an official copy of your birth certificate. For most applicants, the name on the birth certificate should exactly match the full name provided in the fitness application, including the middle name. If the name on your birth certificate does not match the full name you provided on your fitness application, you will need to either amend your fitness application so that the names match or upload additional documentation, such as a marriage certificate, name change order, or passport. If you are not a U.S. citizen or do not have Permanent Resident status, upload this affidavit.
3. For each jurisdiction, including Georgia, in which you have held a driver’s license in the last 12 months, promptly upload a certified driving record. The driving record must be obtained from the Georgia Department of Driver Services (or the issuing agency in the applicable state), include records for the maximum number of years the state provides (seven years for Georgia), and be dated within 30 days of the upload date.
4. Request that your law school send your official law school transcript to the Georgia Office of Bar Admissions. The transcript must indicate that the degree was received, so if you are currently in law school do not request your law school transcript prematurely (i.e., before it reflects that your degree has been conferred). You can find instructions on the procedure for submission of transcripts here.
5. Take and receive a passing score of 75 or higher on the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (“MPRE”). For information regarding the administration of the MPRE and having your score sent to the Georgia Office of Bar Admissions, click here. You may sit for the bar exam without a passing MPRE score, but you will not be eligible to be sworn-in until we receive a passing score.
6. You may need to submit your fingerprints. If this is required, your analyst will notify you and provide detailed instructions on how to proceed.
7. Your fitness application is a continuing application, and you must update it within 30 days of any event that would change your answer to any question. You can amend your application by selecting the “Amend Application” feature on your homepage.
8. Finally, remember that after you receive your certification of fitness from the Fitness Board, you must file an application to sit for the bar exam.
